The tiny depth of field in this photo was faked (view the original) using Photoshop to mimic the effect of a tilt shift lens. By adding a little extra contrast and saturation, the photo appears, to me at last, like a close-up of a miniature model. This was shot from Twin Peaks Blvd. in San Francisco.

Did you buy a tilt shift lens or did you do it in photoshop?

I faked it with photoshop (and just updated the description too). I’d love to shoot with a tilt shift lens sometime, but they’re a bit too spendy for me.

Yeah, I love how this stuff comes out and real tilt shift stuff can be even cooler. Did you see these tilt shift shots on BLDGVBLOG? They are unbelievable.

Lensbabies actually makes a relative affordable camera lens attachment that lets you do tilt-shift and selective focus photography with pretty much any SLR. Plus, they’re based in Portland! If I had an SLR, I’d buy one for sure.

Great! My brother’s house is a short walk from Twin Peaks; we enjoy telling visitors on their first trip to the City that the same view changes many times over, but I’d never seen a tilt shift photo from here until now! You should see this same scene at night!
